Who is wise, Socrates? said a man, dressed in expensive clothes.
Those in positions of authority or those who are declared to be wise? Who
is wise, Socrates? Those whose words and names are enshrined in sacred texts?
Or those honoured by tradition?
Socrates considered the question and then he said:
The one who knows one’s own ignorance, and makes no pretence, and spares
no effort to reduce one’s ignorance, that one I consider wise.
