This is the Siva,
shiny and resplendent, I see
text ©Raj Arumugam 2006

Om Nama Shivaya
Om Nama Shivaya
Om Nama Shivaya Om

With my eyes closed and faculties restrained
and mind turning on itself and within
this is the Siva I see:
Siva is the eternal
Siva is the Infinite
Siva is the cause, the essence
This exists as a light within
a pure light, first no bigger than a pinpoint
an intense light confined within the point
as a thousand suns in summer
confined within a pinpoint
yet as gentle as the light of the moon in its full glory
Then there are whorls of light and the light goes forth
The light swirls and it goes in whorls and then it expands. It fills the infinite space that exists within one’s closed eyes. From a centre the light seems to reach out with millions of gentle arms of light. The infinite space within and all about is light. A brilliant pure light.
The light that cleanses.
The light that heals.
One is in that light
as far as one can travel
as far as one can see
the light is there.
It is Siva.
This is eternal.
This is limitless.
This is glorious.
As bright as a million suns in summer.
Yet as gentle as the light of the moon in its full glory.
This is intense.
This is supreme.
This is Absolute Power.
Yet it caresses. Yet it is gentle.
For this is Siva.
Siva is that light, that Love eternal.
It is bright, it is intense
it is soft, it is gentle
it is boundless compassion
yet is it absolute power

Om Nama Shivaya
Om Nama Shivaya
Om Nama Shivaya Om

With my eyes slightly open and faculties restrained
and mind turning on the mantra and withdrawn within this is the Siva I see:

there is the spotless blue sky
before which on the green earth
sits the radiant Siva, the Mahayogi
This is the Master of Yoga, the Master of Kundalini and all tantra;
of great physical stature
powerful limbs and broad shoulders and sturdy chest
in the padmasana sits the Lord of Yogis.
He sits with a smile that radiates the pure bliss that is within the Lord;
the face of the Lord, with the half-open eyes
and the signs of Isa, in Boundless Compassion;
the Lord meditates with a face that is
itself a subject of meditation for yogis
for the face radiates love
for the Lord’s face radiates compassion
for the Lord’s face radiates wisdom.
